Senior Planner – Renewables Onshore & Solar Consultant

Job Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and motivated SeniorĀ Planner to join our clients team, focusing on planning applications for onshore renewables and solar projects. You will play a critical role in shaping sustainable energy solutions and guiding the development of renewable energy infrastructure. Your work will contribute to transforming urban and rural landscapes, helping achieve local and national clean energy targets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planning Applications: Lead and manage the submission of planning applications for onshore renewable energy and solar projects, ensuring compliance with local and national planning policies.
  • Site Assessments: Conduct site visits to assess the viability of locations for renewable energy projects, considering environmental, social, and logistical factors.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Engage with local authorities, community groups, and environmental agencies to address concerns and secure project approvals.
  • Project Coordination: Collaborate with engineers, environmental consultants, and legal advisors to ensure the successful progression of projects from inception to approval.
  • Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA): Prepare and manage EIAs to evaluate the potential effects of renewable energy projects and ensure appropriate mitigation measures are in place.
  • Policy Analysis: Stay updated on changes to planning policies, renewable energy guidelines, and environmental legislation, advising the team accordingly.
  • Sustainable Design: Incorporate best practices in sustainable design and urban development into project proposals to maximize ecological benefits.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Planning, Geography, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in urban planning, ideally with a focus on renewable energy projects (onshore wind, solar, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of local and national planning systems, particularly in renewable energy.
  • Experience with Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and public consultation processes.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Membership in a relevant professional body (e.g., RTPI, AICP) is desirable.
