Senior Planner / Principal Planner

An opportunity has arisen for a qualified Senior Planner with proven experience across all areas of planning. This hybrid position offers flexibility, with office locations throughout Ireland

About the Team

The planning team specialises in large-scale, multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects, as well as commercial, mixed-use, and residential developments. Our work spans maritime area developments, renewable energy projects, transportation, and statutory planning consultancy services for public and private clients. The team includes highly experienced Planning Consultants, offering an excellent environment for mentorship and career progression.

About the Role

Reporting to a Director of Planning, the Senior Planner will provide professional and technical expertise on a diverse range of planning projects. The role involves liaising with clients, ensuring successful project delivery, and working as part of a team on prestigious infrastructure projects. It is well-suited for professionals who thrive in a multi-disciplinary setting, enjoy varied project work, and value high-quality training and development.

Qualifications & Requirements

Essential:

  • BSc or MSc in Regional, Urban, City, or Town and Country Planning
  • Chartered or professionally qualified (Member of IPI and/or RTPI)
  • 5-7 years of professional planning experience post-qualification
  • Strong technical knowledge of planning legislation and policies
  • Project management skills and a willingness to take initiative
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Key Responsibilities

  • Support Planning Directors and junior colleagues on various projects
  • Analyze and interpret socio-economic, demographic, and policy data
  • Prepare reports, summarizing findings and providing clear, reasoned advice
  • Develop innovative solutions to planning challenges
  • Represent the company in client meetings, planning authority discussions, and stakeholder engagements
  • Lead and support business development initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with Quality Assurance procedures
  • Coordinate and manage projects, including:
    • Planning applications and appeals
    • Site appraisals
    • Policy reviews and local plan analysis
    • Environmental assessments coordination

  • Strong client-facing experience with the ability to provide expert planning advice
  • Deep understanding of planning, development, and environmental issues
  • Skilled in independent research, data analysis, and report preparation
  • Ability to foster strong professional relationships
  • A proactive and motivated approach to town planning consultancy
